Could "stossen" work here? "Drucken," I thought, meant "press" rather than "push." The two are sometimes synonymous in English, but not completely.

Well drücken is always written on doors in Germany that you need to push to open, so it's probably the better choice for "push"

"Wenn" begins a relative clause, so the verb goes to the end:
