My Mom's lost streak
Hello! I have a very big problem with lost streak. It is very important for me, because it is my Mom's streak. I was really sure I bought her streak freeze. I was also convinced that, anyway, she practiced yesterday. But we logged in a moment before and her streak disappeared! We are very sad, because the streak motivated her a lot. We are very proud of her, that she is trying to learn English, and now she is very, very sad - I know it maybe sounds funny, but the streak motivates a lot, now she had lost all the joy of learning. I would like to kindly ask a mod for help with lost streak, maybe they could be so nice and check, if maybe it was a programme mistake? I would be extremely grateful for such a kind help. Although - I do not know, how can I contact any person, who is able to check such a thing. Could you please help me with this?
I can't give you a way to get the streak back, but what I can say is always make sure that your mom has completed her 'daily goal'. If she only earns for example 10XP, and her goal is 30XP, then her streak will be lost. :)
Thank you for your answer. We thought about it and at the beginning we made her daily goal as 10 XP (she very often earns more points, but we thought it would be safer ;)). That is also why I am very confused - I am really almost sure she did it also yesterday; 10 points - it is rather easy to achieve (even for someone who is the beginner). Have a nice day :)
I don't think there's anything to be done to get your mum's streak back, sadly.
Remind her, though, that she's still learned what she's learned. The number on the screen has gone, but she still wants to learn the language, she's still at the same stage of her learning, and it's still possible to reach her goal.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear it :( Of course we know it, but, well, it occured that it is a different thing to know and - to see motivating numbers. It is a bit irrational, but... it is. I hoped that maybe it was a programme's mistake, and in this case it should be possible to check it. Maybe someone from mods will see my post, I really hope so! The same thing happened to my mom too, and I'm writing from her account! It is actually the second time that she lost her streak, even though she completes her daily goal each and every day. About two weeks ago, there was a problem with Duolingo servers, and many people lost their streaks, including my mom, and the mods restored their streaks over a few days. In any case, I tweeted to them, and I'll let you know if they reply.
P.S.: I am also very proud of my mom - she even started a trend among her friends. Kudos to yours and all mothers who are trying to learn a new language!
Thank you very much for your answer. Yes, I remember that day - fortunately then we both had streak freeze. We had lost once about 16 days (at the beginning), but it was our fault - we didn't know enough about Lingots and freezing. Now we are really convinced that it for 99% was not our mistake. The same happened to me today! I completed my daily goal yesterday, as always, and it's also visible on my profile that I did (in that graph where you can see the daily points), but when I logged a few minutes ago, my 116 day streak was gone anyway! I bought it back because I REALLY didn't want to lose my streak, but I'm writing to Duolingo that I want my money back as I DID complete the goal and it just seems to be a nasty bug, with all you people here experiencing the same.
Oh, so maybe it was really some programme mistake! I really hope so... Could you please tell me what do you mean by "I bought it back"? Is it possible to buy a streak back, even if it seems to be lost?
Yes, but only if you use it on your phone - you get a message that the streak is lost and the offer to buy it back via the app.
Oh, that is a bit strange, because we did not receive any message... My Mos use Duolingo on her phone; I am checking her streak freeze on my computer (so we use both devices in fact), maybe that it the reason?
My mom's feeling very frustrated, as well. I hope they will give you a refund for the streak repair! Sometimes I experience glitches on mobile apps, and it tells me that I have to pay to repair my streak. When it happens (it happened twice), I log in on my computer immediately, and I see there is nothing wrong with my streak. I recommend doing that, if possible.
