Does anyone know when Japanese will be available?
I saw job postings for people fluent in Japanese months ago, so I assume they have people working on it. If you are learning Japanese, in the meantime I would check out Anki, All Japanese All The Time, Reviewing the Kanji, and Fixoodle.
Thanks for posting this, I got caught on a tangent on the second URL, and really discovered some cool stuff.
Anki and Reviewing the Kanji are indispensable. I studied the kana and kanji on my own with Heisig's books, anki, and kanji.koohii.com, and then enrolled in a first-year college Japanese course. Of course I continued using anki in the class. I too would like to see duolingo offer Japanese.
My son has a Japanese girlfriend who doesn't speak any other language. So i reallly want to learn Japanese too
Completely agree. Beginning Japanese using other means, but would gladly go back to duolingo if they had Japanese.
I can't wait to try, but it doesn't sound like it is a top concern (I keep reading that Chinese and Portuguese are next up)... how good is your Japanese?
Unfortunately, I am just a beginner. I know the Hiragana and Katakana characters and some Kanji.
I'm currently learning Japanese and I think the tools here would help me out a lot! +1 Japanese
JAPANESE PLEASE! No matter if you have some years studying it, it's a never-ending-learning language, and having the audio help and easy practice could make a huge difference, please duolingo!
I am ALL FOR JAPANESE! I can imagine the potential for it on this awesome site, but they'll have to wrestle with the alternative scripts, since the most they've had to do so far was accents in latin letters.
I very much would like to use Japanese using this method. I just found the site and have been brushing up on my Italian.
Pretty please do Japanese soon :) I'm fairly competent at it but this would really help!
Please please please, let us know when Japanese will be available ."..................
This site is so awesome to learn foreign laungage! I wanna see how dualingo offer us Jpanese learning system soon.
Please add Japanese! I've been trying to learn it for the past few years but everything I read tells me something different. I want a reliable resource to go to to help me learn. I've learnt some kanji but nothing else.
Japonês é magnifico, faço curso e seria muito bom para ampliar meu estudos.日本語のコースをしてください tradução por favor curso de japonês
I'd just like to say that this would be a fantastic use of Duolingo's resources. Using their group translation project, they could get into the main industries that drive most American's to want to learn Japanese in the first place: anime and manga. They would both be highly profitable by adding it, they would be benefiting a massive number of people. Personally, from what I've seen, it would be much larger than Portuguese.
I too, would love it if Duolingo had Japanese. Of course there will be technical challenges with the Kanji and even with the Furigana, but the huge amount of new users should make up for it.
I saw on the incubator page that English for Japanese speakers was being hatched. Which means you have a bi-lingual team working on that... How hard would it be to do the Japanese for English speakers at the same time ?
Looks like the answer is... soon: http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2013/09/25/duolingo-takes-online-teaching-to-next-level-by-crowd-sourcing-new-languages/
I had lot of fun learning a bit of german, but now I have to focus on Japanese, and I really regret not being able to use duolingo for that. Hopefully a good surprise will come soon :)
would love Japanese but Chinese might be fun :) then I can play at living in the 'Firefly Verse'. Shiny !! :) (note: in Joss Wheedon's space western Firefly, English and Chinese were the dominate languages and our 'heroes' swore like troopers but only in Chinese (A:to foil the network censors B: 'cause it's cool :) )
I really want to learn japanese on duolingo! I have learned sime basics like greetings and numbers etc. But I would like to learn more with duolingo!
I've just started learning Japanese and would love to be able to do so with Duolingo.
I've been waiting and anticipating this Japanese course for forever!! Please add soon! I would love Duolingo even more if Japanese was added!!
how long does it take to make Japanese for english speakers? I am just wondering because I need to learn Japanese as soon as possible. Please respond! I don't mean to be rude.
I'd love to learn Japanese on here too! it's such a nice language, and I have a couple friends that speak it. I'm currently learning Spanish and Italian and am strongly anticipating the release of the Russian and Klingon courses. Japanese has my vote for next to be developed!
