Why isn't "the mother" an acceptable translation?
Yeah, sometimes course look somewhat inconsistent. They said when you see một, this means a something, and without is the something yet the mother is wrong?

I remember from highschool in the 90s that mother was Ma and father was Ba?cant remember the used accents though...
I think it's má and ba, I use ba to refer to my dad all the time
"Mẹ" sound like French "Mere". "Má" sound like French and Chinese "MAman" and "MAma"
Má = Mẹ

So is the pronunciation supposed to sound more like you have something in your mouth? I'm trying to see the difference between this and "me".
