I think "My girl's dog" sounds more natural.

So, is there no official word for 'son' or 'daughter' in Romanian? All I've seen thus far is '___'s girl/boy'.

Son = fiu, daughter = fiică. The use of "girl" and "boy" is seemingly common (and can be frustratingly vague) but it's not the only way. I'm not sure which is more common; maybe a native/fluent speaker can help us out here.

Hard to say which is more common. It depends on the circumstances. I would say that fiu/fiică are a bit more proper, while boy/girl are a bit more informal.
