K'iche'

Please Duolingo, it's time to add K'iche' (ISO 639-3 code: quc)! I know it's difficult to find contributors and to create the course, but we would love you so much more if you do!

From CLAS:

"K’iche’ is a Mayan language spoken by about one million people in the central highlands of Guatemala."

Hi, Since this is the first request for a K'iche' course, I've added this post to the [GUIDE] I would like a new course: What should I do? discussion.

This is a language that would be very useful for myself and for my students in the form of the reverse tree!

Yes! I have a large population of Guatemalan students, and Kiche is one of the "dialectos" (they are not dialects; they are distinct languages) many of them speak. We also have many Popti speakers.

Duolingo, this language is in dire need. There is a shortage of people who speak it in the USA and it would be helpful if you could provide the services to learn such an amazing language. Especially since Luis von Ahn (co creator of Duolingo) is Guatemalan. We need our representation.

I participate in twice yearly medical mission work to Guatemala and a K'iche Duolingo course would be quite helpful for me and the other medical practitioners and students! Through Spanish would be the most logical but eventually through English as well would be fantastic. Especially meaningful since the creator of Duolingo is from Guatemala!

You can apply for it. K'iche' course has no contributors. You can be the first: https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/qc/es/status

Yukatec Maya would also be great , how close are these languages ?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/JMayaLing

Yucatec Maya is substantially different. There is some overlap in vocabulary, and there are regular sound correspondences between the two, but the basic greetings are different and there are differences in sentence structure.

UT does have a new online course for K'iche': https://tzij.coerll.utexas.edu/

Yes, it would be a great idea actually

Personally, I love the idea of helping endangered languages, and this is a beautiful one anyway.

I too am interested in learning k'chi.

I want it so I don't have to learn Spanish to learn the alpha K'iche tree. I just want to learn a brand new language.

I agree they need to add it.
