Hello fellow Duolingoers! As you may have noticed, this past week has been a big week for us on the ENG-KOR Team! Not only did we pass the 25% course completion mark, but we also welcomed aboard three new members! johnlee318 will be joining me as moderator and beauxreve and kiwoopak are contributors! I also want to give a big thanks to nicola0728 for all of the hard work he put in during his time as moderator and helping me lay the groundwork for the English for Korean speakers course!

Week 5: (50% complete) Celebrating the half way mark!

प्यार का पहला ख़त लिखने में वक़्त तो लगता है। नए परिंदों को उड़ने में वक़्त तो लगता है ॥ Written by Hasti http://bit.ly/1stLoveLyrics and sung by Jagjit Singh, (YouTube – first five minutes) http://bit.ly/1stLoveLive this poem (ghazal - ग़ज़ल), closely describes what we feel during this incubator journey. With a small warning that a translation for any poetry does NOT convey its true meaning and context, here’s my attempt – “It does take some time to write the first love letter, newly born birds do need some time to take flight!” Indeed our journey does seem like a love letter from our team to the eagerly awaiting Duozens of the world who are wanting to watch our Duolingo-Hindi Owl’s first flight :-) Please rest assured, we are doing our best to bring our course to you. As promised a couple of weeks ago, we have been able to shave one whole week off - the official new launch date is projected to be 8th of April. And we will continue to work to further advance it. Lastly, but not the least, we are delighted to have http://duolingo.com/AnandKulka1 join our team. Please join us in welcoming him!

PHASE 2 PROGRESS:

French for Spanish - 173,000 | 204,000 | 239,000 (+17%)

English for Hungarian - 139,000 | 161,000 | 203,000 (+26%)

English for Russian - 105,000 | 119,000 | 141,000 (+18%)

English for Dutch - 50,200 | 61,300 | 74,600 (+22%)

English for Turkish - 44,100 | 56,800 | 77,800 (+37%)

English for Polish - 27,400 | 31,700 | 38,200 (+21%)

Portuguese for Spanish - 26,300 | 30,600 | 35,300 (+15%)

English for Romanian - New: 577 | 1,190 | 1,930 | 3,050 (+58%)

SUMMARY

Amazing progress this week, with Phase 1 languages progressing an average of 7.5% , it seems that two languages, English for Japanese, and Spanish for Portuguese are due to enter beta this week. There is also an emerging pattern that shows a brand new language (non-reverse) is released into the incubator every other week at the current rate.

Furthermore, recent news from Luis suggests that English speakers can very soon look forward to Russian, Polish, Turkish, Hungarian, Romanian, and Dutch. This incubator just keeps getting better every week!
