Why the long, complex sentences in the very beginning?

While I have really enjoyed learning how Hungarian works and it is a very fascinating language I feel that starting out at the very beginning that the Basics are very hard.

With other languages I am learning, like Polish or Turkish, I've gotten very basic sentences at the beginning like "I have a dog" or "I speak English". Which has helped me with understanding how the language is structured.

But I feel that there are sentences in Basics 1 and 2 that are very complex especially for people just starting out. Getting sentences like "The bus is often here at noon", "Is the doctor walking outside or the English driver?", "What are you doing this early?" to be slightly complex.

Maybe this is just me. I applaud the Hungarian team for making Hungarian a language that can be learned becuase it's such an interesting language with a very unique histroy that really sets it apart from its neighbors. But I feel that it is at times a bit unweildy.

No, you are not alone :-)

None of the other courses here at Duolingo has such a chaotic structure and such a lot of dismotivating sentences. Though one of the contributors described the problem of long sentences - the longer a sentence becomes, the more possible translations maybe correct which have to ba accepted as correct - there are still a lot of monster sentences in that course, which after all accept only one correct translation.

Be patient and report sentences as too long, if they contain more than 12 words.

I totally understand that nonsense sentences help understanding more than just conventional phrases. But this course has too many long convoluted sentences that are way too hard for the level. I used to be able to read simple genre literature in Hungarian and I find too many sentences are too long and just weird which might be okay during 'consoldation lessons' but it's not helpful for actually teaching.

Also, new vocabulary is introduced in the middle of these long sentences and there's no 'slow' option for the playback. I end up just copying the sentence and pasting it in to get to the end of the lesson.

A few funny, weird sentences are okay, "the chipmunk wears a big hat" cool.

But "The three famous Egyptian kindergarten teachers are waiting between the red bus and the green streetcar by the river" is too much too soon.

Dial it back, most of the sentences need to be drastically reduced.

I think it's because Hungarian vocabulary is very different from English, so they try to make us practice really hard.
