Please help my girlfriend stay on Duolingo

Hi,

My girlfriend and I recently decided to learn French together. Somehow I got the free app and she got a version with a health meter which is constantly asking her to pay money.

I love my app but she's frustrated, disappointed and is considering quitting. I really don't like seeing her like this as this was meant to be a fun thing that we could do together.

Can anyone here please suggest a way that she can download the Duolingo version that's the same as mine?

Paul

She'll lose all her progress, obviously. If she wants to use the email address she has used for this account again, she needs to change the email address in her existing account - it can be made up gibberish but maybe keep a record of it. THEN deactivate the account. Then she can register a new one using that email address if she wants. And another. And another... until she gets one that functions as she wants.

If anyone who has access to Luis et al is reading this, perhaps they could give him a kick up the backside to come and read it so that he can see what this looks like to new sign-ups - a free app vs a paid one. They don't think that's what they are doing but that's how it's functioning and that's how it looks to the person using it.

I was under the impression that doing a strengthening lesson gave you health so you don't have to pay. Anyway, it's an AB test so there's not much you can do about it other than wait and see whether they get rid of health or you both get it. If the strengthening thing doesn't work she can also do lessons on her browser, mobile or desktop.

I have the same problem. I started using DuoLingo on my computer which was completely free, so I loved it so I downloaded the app - but on the app I could only do so much practice each day. It annoyed me because I want to do more learning than is available with the app, so I am only using the website now. :/

Pardon, you have to pay to use Duolingo now? What an outrage!

"Paid" as in it has ads on it. Some versions of the app have advertising

She should deactivate and make a new one until she gets the right one.

P.S. Happened to my brother, did the above and after a while he got the original.

She can just use the desktop version. It's not too inconvenient once you get used to it.

If you really like the "tapping sentence" way and you also would like to have the two additional app excercise-types (building word pairs, choose the correct word out of three given words) which are thrown into normal lesson sentences....

..... you could also install the software BlueStacks (Android app player, emulator) on Windows and use the DuoLingo Android app.
Give it a try as their "hearts-A/B test" may be limited (only) to the IOS app https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20607962$comment_id=20615940; they test "new stuff" on IOS as their IOS developer team is bigger.

About 5 lessons work in offline app mode (no WLAN); doing 9 offline lessons (2 unlocked skills) corrupted the DuoLingo app data on my side, so the app does start anymore: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20610216
I guess 2 skills x 5 lessons: 10 lessons offline (~30-60 minutes) should support this (very limited) offline feature.
