Frustration over trolls.

The trolls on this site are beginning to frustrate and annoy me. I spent a solid 30 minutes writing a long, detailed post to help other French learners and was met with a bunch of trolls commenting things such as "i hate it" or "stop posting french stuff". Keep in mind that I make sure all my French posts are in the FRENCH discussion section.

My posts have helped a lot of people and I will continue making them despite what the trolls say or do. I am just deeply frustrated that a gang of trolls down-voted/disliked my post and got it deleted. I put a lot of time, effort and thought into the post so it bothered me a little when it got deleted.

My post listed 5 French learning apps, the top one being Duolingo. I gave descriptions of them and even stated that Duolingo is my favorite one (which it is). I don't believe I broke any rules by making that post. I would like if a mod could confirm this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

This kind of behaviour has been happening as long as I have been here. It does seem to be getting worse. Language related posts and legit troubleshooting requests are downvoted and filled with stupid comments. Nonsense posts are being upvoted.

They said they are working on new forums, maybe that is why they seem ok with allowing these to just turn to a cesspit.

No no no, keep your Lingots! I just made this discussion so I could vent and let my frustrations out. I have 16 Lingots right now which is more than enough for me, so please keep your hard earned Lingots :-)

No, you deserved my lingot because I share the same opinion. These posts should be more monitored by mods. It's not ok that some meaningful posts are being deleted because of down-voting trolls, while some stupid posts like ˝ Give me a lingot˝ are active all the time!

Thank you for the support and kind words, it's nice to know there are like-minded people on this site.

Nah, I have 81 lingots and literally no use for them! ;) I feel the same way also and appreciate this discussion.

Same here, that's why I do not understand why everybody is asking for them! What are they doing with them? Do they sell them for money or what? :D Am I missing something here?I know for the store and things you can buy, but it's not something extra useful unless you want to keep the streak at days you're too lazy to play.

I'm one of those who loves ligots for days I don't want to study Duolingo. I still study, but not Duo. I'm usually on Rosetta Stone or Brian Pop, etc. I just have so many resources now, but Duo is still my base even though I finished the tree months ago.

Agree. When I was here a year ago it didn't seem nearly this bad, though maybe memory fails. I wish the offenders would be suspended into better behavior.

I remember last year I wrote a really long post and it got deleted and downvoted for no reason. That day a lot of posts disappeared in seconds. Even the ones that are complaints about downvoting posts got downvoted. ;(

It can only get deleted by mods or staff not trolls.

However, I think Beyond is referring to the phenomenon when a post receives a net vote of -5, it becomes invisible in the main discussion area.

Wow, you're definitely on to something, langbron, bc there isn't a single hater post here and going on 52 upvotes! Honestly, kinda surprised. Good surprised, but still.

I can't tell if you're being rude/sarcastic or genuinely nice.

Sorry! Sarcasm is my fave humor, and I (unfortunately) forget sometimes it doesn't register as well on forums and the like. XD I really meant what I said, I see posts that are perfectly good, about whatever topic, and they get tons of down votes and stupid comments. I'm glad this is an exception!

I'm glad you were being nice! I come across so many sarcastic mean people that it's hard to tell when people are being friendly. I personally also struggle to tell when someones being sarcastic or not :P idk why.

Anyway, thank you for the sweet comment, I really appreciate it. It's sad to see good topics getting down-voted.

Hmmm...I enjoy sharing my experience, but have become reluctant, and may have a different way of explaining things, but also noted being down voted once in awhile and wondered why, especially since I am a retired language teacher, working on my fifth language. Also, I have an advanced degree in linguistics and have attended methodology courses in the US, Germany, Austria and Russia. I communicated very simply in Tagalog & Japanese, having lived in non-English speaking areas. I believe some negative comes from closed-minded moderators.
