Any good German Bands?
A friend recently turned me on to both Die Toten Hosen and Die Arzte. Both have been around a while and have lots of great songs.
I don't know why several people gave you thumbs down. Anyway! If you like rock you should check out Rammstein, Oomph!, and Eisbrecher.
I second Rammstein. They also (often) have really good, meaningful lyrics, which does not usually come across to non-native speakers (tons of word-games, metaphors, and references to German literature). Of course they do not exactly try to stress that in their live shows XD.
I can third Rammstein. Plenty of their songs (Du Hast, for example) have simple words slowly spoken and repetitive phrases which are good for someone learning German.
I fourth Rammstein. Most of their lyrics are very well enunciated. A song like Ich Will will teach you a bunch of verbs in no time.
I fifth Rammstein because the band is amazing and I want to continue this chain
People will often give thumbs down if they want to draw your attention to the fact that you've posted to the wrong forum, violated a guideline, or missed some other detail. (Or, just if they dislike a topic. In this case, you posted it to the General Discussion forum, instead of the German Discussion forum. :)
Here is how to move it:
- Subscribe to the German Discussion forum:
(oops, you'll need to copy and paste the whole link into your browser. Sorry!)
- Edit your post and select "German" as the forum, rather than "Duolingo" from the menu at the top of your editing screen.
For the future, here is a guide that will introduce you to each forum, tell you what they are for, and where to find them. http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Forum_Guide:Where_to_Discuss_What_on_Duolingo%28Unofficial%29
Viel Erfolg beim Lernen!! ^_^
I know that this is an old topic but I heard a mention of Oomph! and I just had to second it, I mean just look at my icon. Eisbrecher is fantastic, they need more fans, and Rammstein is always lovely.
Presumably you mean good for learning the language? For me as a native speaker it's a bit hard to judge, but I think the following two, though in different ways not precisely German bands, could be interesting for that purpose:
- The Austrian band "Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung" ("First General Uninsurance", a pun on a company name).
- German singer Reinhard Mey (also known as French singer Frédérik Mey).
I am a fan of the Wise Guys, who never seem to get the recognition they deserve. They are an a capella band with very funny lyrics.
If you are more into punk/ indie rock, you may like die Toten Hosen, die Ärzte or JBO.
For metal/medival rock I can recommend In Extremo, Subway to Sally and Schandmaul
Great "Schlager" and "neue Deutsche Welle" come from Peter Maffay, Wofgang Petry, Nena, Guildo Horn, Dieter Thomas Kuhn, Helge Schneider and many others.
And then there's Xavier Naidoo (R&B), die Fantastischen Vier (Hip Hop) and some others whose lyrics I can't recommend for learners ;)
There are also a lot of good bands that sing in English, but I guess you wanted some with German lyrics.
Die Fantastischen Vier
Gestort aber GeiL
Ich + Ich
Ich Kann Fliegen
Wir Sind Helden
Just finished listening to "Selig" albums. Great! But that is a matter of opinion.
