Just started learning German

I'm in 7th grade, I just started learning German today. I have a goal to go to Germany for college, so I'm starting to learn now. I had hoped to take a German class when I got into high school, but it turns out that they don't teach German. Looks like I'm going to have to teach myself. It might be hard, but I'm sure I'll be good at German by the time I go to college. Wish me luck!

Wishing you great success! As I got deeper into German, I found the Hammer Grammar YouTube series very helpful. Here's the link in case you need it later : https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2fCGQa2PY7CDJkKsRiYNC-7XxiU4I10f

Great luck to you IcyBoiz. German is a fun and rewarding language. If you stick with it, you will come to love everything that seems difficult about it in the beginning (I say this from experience).

Es ist möglich!

Way to go IB! That is a wonderful goal. I love learning German!

Viel Glück! Use the language as much as possible in your day to day and you'll have success.

Just remember: you have time on your side! Consistent effort over time, even if it's only 10 or 20 minutes every day, over a year or two can take you far.

Hi Icy, I have also just started learning German on Duolingo. I previously used Paul Noble's audio course to learn some German for holiday purposes, now I'm hoping that Duolingo will help me to improve. Best of luck!

I'm in 9th grade, I just started to learn German this year.I want to become a German teacher so I practice really hard. If you take German in High school keep using duolingo, because the class might learn slower than you want to learn. Don't give up. I hope you do get to go to colleg in Germany. :)

I wish you the best of luck !!! I find it really impressing that you are willing to work so hard to realise your dreams. Never give up on your dreams :)

I just started learning German a couple of months ago. I found the pronunciation really tough and the vocabulary is so different in spelling from English or Spanish that you cannot save a bit of energy that way, LOL. I am glad to find that there are other beginners in this forum like me and just as I have benefited a lot from the online community in the Spanish forum, I believe I will learn a lot from guys here as well.

Ich drücke dir die Daumen! = I keep my fingers crossed. Always good to have a plan and to set a goal, that's already half the way to success. With Duolingo you can build up a really good basis! People here are nice and supportive and may help you with pleasure.

I guess I am in the same situation as you IB, teaching myself German-- I am sure you'll successfully learn German! :-)

Best of luck! I love studying it too as my profile suggests.

Anyhow, you may find the following blog very helpful for studying grammar and learning context for verbs: https://yourdailygerman.com

Hey, best wishes. I split my life into "before I learned German" and "after I started German". So it's pretty important to me. Once you get a good grasp, maybe 100 words or so, this guy will make you laugh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98LBWDvUbAk

You can totally do this! I started by teaching myself, and by the time I finally got to take a class I got to start with Low Intermediate instead of one of the Beginner sections... self-teaching works!

Good luck! If there's a university in your town, you might find some native German speakers or a professor who could help you as well. The only way to truly learn is to practice speaking!

We wish you well Icy! Yeah, that happened to me half-way through High School but I managed to continue with an online-course. Is that an option at your school? It might be worth checking out.

8th grade, learning because of a vacation and for my family. But also because it's fun
