100 amazing days on Duolingo!
As you see by my profile I have a one hundred day streak. It has been an amazing three months on Duolingo.
What I have accomplished:
I am now half way through my French tree.
I have done almost fifteen lessons on a course I call the "Unofficial Finnish course"
I reached three goals:
A one hundred day streak.
One thousand french words.
What has happened on Duolingo:
Duolingo added clubs.
Duolingo Had a "glitch" that they used to remove Immersion.
Swahili went from 100% to 99% and is still not finished.
Goals that I am close to completing:
I have almost reached 1000 lingots.
I almost have 15000 XP.
And I can almost carry on a conversation in French.
Thank you Duolingo! And a word of advise always keep a streak freeze in use!;)
Hi John, congrats!
French - lvl 12
You almost reached your "90 days" on your second (real French) individual language streak.
Try to save it, do NOT pause French for even one day until your are finished! (freeze works only for global streak) :-) You can install the user script "DuoTweak" which also shows streaks for all your languages in your profile (only for the current selected source).
Welcome to the 100 days club :) https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20736135
So with your finished Spanish course before, you must have got some pretty good experience how to efficiently be able to fight (not rush) through a DuoLingo tree; I guess that is a huge advantage?
Do you have the user script "DuoLingo course progress" installed. Does it show 50% progress?
I am only on 25% for Portuguese, but learned 1.130 words (including phrases/sentences = 1 word) on Memrise already.
The French vs Portuguese DuoLingo courses are quite different in skill ordering as I had a quick look on your tree.
To be able to start speaking, do you first have to complete the Duo tree or when is the break even point reached?
Unfortunately I have to fight with my Portuguese course with IMHO "not that really important skills/words" early in the tree, before I can go down the tree to the more interesting / relevant skills (e.g grammar tenses) for a real course / language progressing.
I absolutely have no idea why I need to learn so many words like fisherman, refrigerator, heating, ceiling, shower, etc. that soon.
Somehow I feel I am wasting too much time, as I have to re-learn this vocabulary also on Memrise.
This surely will NOT help me to be able to learn / start speaking the (PT) language?!?
IMHO DuoLingo does not work well with that concept of Polyglot blog slogans "Speak from day 1"?! :-)
Being able to choose skills freely in the skill (circle) would be a really great thing!
Doesn't the robot backend choose various learned words and combines those anyways?
Why do we have to go sequentially through the tree from top to down? Is that Incubator related?
Does each question practice of more down skills refer back to the previous words (skills up in the tree)?
Last but not least:
How did it work out with your Spanish course before? Good luck with the next 265 days!
