Yes, I'd be interested in a Tagalog course. I think we'll have to wait a while, though. It will probably still take a few months until English for Tagalog is up and running, and they will likely wait until it reaches phase 3 before they start building the "reverse" tree. You might want to search the Discussion section for older posts about how many people would be interested in learning Tagalog, there were a few ones.

At the moment, there are 329 people who've said they want a Tagalog course.

The Duolingo staff and moderators have asked us to keep to only a single post for each language that's suggested, to keep the forums manageable. Have a look at this post about how to suggest a language course: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/15014194.

Tagalog has already been suggested and added to that page. If you want to add your upvote to the calls to add a Tagalog course to Duolingo, that's where to do so.

Shouldn't we wait until the English for Tagalog course is complete?

Why should we wait? Two courses can be worked on simultaneously, especially if done by different teams.

Doing them sequentially with (mostly) the same team requires less time and effort from Duolngo staff. And it is their decision.

Perhaps, I will also apply as a contributor for the "English for Tagalog Speakers" course. :)

I think when you volunteer for one, it enters you for both automatically. But there is no harm applying again.

Good luck!

I know that it is their decision. The comment I replied to implied that the OP should agree with that decision. There is nothing wrong with agreeing nor with disagreeing with any decision.

You asked "why should we wait"

Duolingo has finite resources and they are trying to maximise the utility created from those resources. In the long run, more people benefit, if this approach is taken.

[Also the courses aren't independent - they are conjoined in some way. I can't remember what is shared between them, at the moment. Whatever it is, it might cause problems - though that thought is speculative]

I meant wait to apply. One reason I've seen course contributors give as a reason for a slowdown in progress of courses in incubator stage is that they're busy moderating the "reverse course" as well. There are benefits, as you have stated, but there are setbacks as well.

I love to learn! I'm from Cebu and my tagalog is bad! I want to improve on my tagalog. I know some words already but it's not enough to keep my filipino grade up. sad.

I am only 1/4 Filipino, but I am dying to learn Tagalog and so is my son. I have a few relatives who speak and I would love to be able to converse with them in their native language. I can't wait to see Tagalog here on Duolingo!! Thank you all who are working so hard to provide us with this opportunity!

I would love to learn Tagalog. There is a sizable population of Filipinos where I live.

Here is an excellent online resource from Beginning Filipino/Conversational Tagalog to the Intermediate Level: http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Tagalog/Tagalog_Homepage99/learning_tagalog_on_this_site.htm

I cannot believe that they have KLINGON, but they have not added Tagalog yet. I'm a Trekkie extraordinaire, but come on--there are plenty of real people who speak Tagalog with whom English-speaking people want to speak.
