Hm, I don't think I'd use station here.

Station is στάθμος and it implies a big facility. στάση is a stop on a route; it could be as simple as just a pole or a flag. And you couldn't really have a station on the sidewalk - it wouldn't fit.

I couldn't see how you could have a "stop" on the sidewalk either, but now I see that you're referring to the sign or pole that indicates where the bus stops.

Both are ok, "πάνω" leaves no room for ambiguity.
