I want to know if you have to roll your r's in french!
bonjour all! i just started french and i was wondering if you have to roll your r's in french...i am always having a hard time saying words with r's and all! Merci if you help me :)
also in different parts of france they have different accents kind of like English in that way. but for traditional French NEVER roll your r's
le roulement des rrr dépend simplement des régions ... de même que la prononciation anglaise n'est pas la même à Londre qu'à Sydney
and yes the rs in French like in catre are in the bottom of your throat making a kind of gutral sound
You have to roll your Rs in Spanish and Italian. I have also heard the rare French speaker rolling Rs. But in practice, they have a more guttural R, almost like when you try to clear your throat.
That's what's nice about French. No rolling r's! Although I had a French teacher who lived in the south of France who could do a combined French and rolled r! It was a unique sound as it had that gargling r sound with the rolling r sound.
It also depends on what your saying. Mostly not and if you do it is very subtle. Some roll the r a little in my name and when saying things like "drap" but I wouldn't worry about rolling r's, people will understand you just fine if you don't roll them.
Uh, no, people will know right away you are English and switch to English. I thought I spoke flawless French until I was corrected today, and I have been speaking French for 40 years
