Well, my other answer was in Italian thanks to Google, but for this one Google doesn't help good enough.

You make that question because you know nothing about Esperanto. I mean, you think you know something, but you actually don't.

  1. For the beginner of the language, Zamenhof, the main goal was to make Esperanto the international language. But he had an intermediate goal, that for him was good enough: to make Esperanto an international language for a community of people. And he got it before die and that community remains alive today (I mean the community, not the first speakers of the community XD).

  2. English is the international language (de facto), but many people want to have, at least, an option (even if they can speak English perfectly). An easier one or whatever the reason.

  3. Actually, in the Esperanto community, not everyone wants Esperanto to be the international language and many Esperanto speakers don't even think about that. And probably for most of them it's just not important. They just want to speak it, and of course, to do it, they need new speakers all the time.

  4. English wasn't chosen, was an imposition that came from the USA thanks to the aftermaths of the second world war. And well, with Esperanto or without it, the discussion is totally legitimate. Why English, German, French, Russian or Spanish and not an easier to learn language? English is not at all a good option, look at its writing and its pronunciation. It works, of course, the same has worked any other language in the past, yes, but Esperanto, is the proof that a conlang can work, at least, as well as any other language, with less time of learning.

  5. For some people Esperanto is a way to do activism about linguistic rights.

Well, here you are five points that give you an answer and to make you understand you know nothing about Esperanto, but I could write a book as an answer. And the end answer to your question is always yes.

The question is whether it's worth talking to Esperanto speakers. I think it is. In the same way, I think it's worth speaking to Italian speakers.

(As for getting a job, I don't see how English as a global phenomenon relates to whether it's good to know Italian to get a job in Italy.)

Of course ,if you speak english you are more chances to find a job in Italy. However, I think the best choice is to study what you like! :) A big hug for you!

@stefan630670. In Italy the best language for jobs would be Italian, as in any other country, their local languages. However, in many EU countries English would be more effective than Italian.

I don't think EN would have major advantage in say Russia, most Eastern EU, Africa/Asia/S.America. They might not have enough jobs for themselves.

Knowing other languages always helps. Ciao

I hope that you will have another chance to visit Italy because it is a beautiful country. There are many interesting cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan and more ... and if you like to eat good food, you are in the right place. :)
