In my Spanish class this week (or more) we are learning to love a language.

My teacher sat down in front of my class and told us that we were going to have "a chat." She asked us who love love loves learning Spanish. I instantly raised my hand and was surprised to see that only a few other people raised their hands.

She then asked me why I loved Spanish. Why do I love Spanish? That's not even a question! I just love Spanish! And language learning!" "I like learning another language. And I want to travel. And I want to be able to talk to other people that I wouldn't have gotten the chance to talk to if I hadn't been learning that another language."

She asked me if I was learning another language, so I told her all of them.

Then my teacher told us that there is no point in learning a language if you don't love and value the language, and the culture.

Someone asked about people learning a language for a job where they really had to learn it, if it wasn't a choice. Good question. "Well, they must value their job." Good point.

My teacher really got me thinking. For most of us, learning a language has a special place in our hearts. Sometimes it's boring, it drags on, it's hard - but we love it (hopefully!). At some point, we've all probably had to or wanted to love to learn a language!

If not, I suggest you start today!!! :-) - SportsOcean

Yes, you learn a language either because you love it or you have to speak it. A lot of people do not love English, but if they move to the USA and want to go ahead they have to learn it.

I love the French language and studied it for five years. Then I forgot it because there are not many people in the US who speak French. Basically I learned it to forget it. That's why I switched to Spanish. I don't love it as much as French, but I've had many opportunities to speak it. I guess you can say that I've learned to love it. I may spend some time in a Spanish-speaking country, so it will be useful. I will never go back to French.

For me it was the other way around! I started learning Russian just out of curiosity and ended up loving the language and the country's culture. In a way, I learned to love it :)
