Why is a user's profile open to a classroom teacher?

If I was a student in a classroom, why would my classroom teacher be able to access my profile? I am trying to open a classroom, but no one wants to join because I could change their password if I wanted to (I don't). Why is that option there anyway? Is it for security issues, so if I wanted to take someone out of my classroom, can't I just remove that student using a 'Remove Student' option rather than using his/her password to do it?

Classrooms are designed for real teachers to teach their students and may need to contact them via email etc

So why give them access to their password? Can't Duolingo block that from showing up?

The students are usually children, and children aren't mature enough to be allowed to run wild on an internet forum. If the teacher has access to the student's account, then he/she will be able to monitor that student's activity more closely and stop the student from using the account if he/she does not behave well. Ideally teachers would not allow students to use the forums in the first place, but I have a feeling many don't know that it's possible.

There are some kinds of people who should not be allowed around children, even on Duolingo.

I would be more concerned to know why you want to recruit students to your classroom if they are not your students.

I think you've misunderstood what a Duolingo classroom is for. The Duolingo for Schools system will let you set assignments, but it won't give your students access to anything on Duolingo that they can't already get at. It isn't like an actual classroom - it isn't a place where you can teach people.

The people who you were going to invite into your classroom - just suggest that they join Duolingo.
