I so upset myself when I miss the articles and say 'the' rather than 'one'. I feel so stupid!!!!

I used to get pissed off at that too but from what my french teacher told me the articles are very important so its best to get it get it down sooner than later.

why does Duolingo say that the translation "how much costs a book" for "Combien coute un livre" is wrong????

Because that's incorrect English

As a rule if you have translated the sentence word for word in the same order then you are probably using incorrect grammar in either French or English.

what's the difference between coût and coûte?

How does one know when 'un' means 'one' instead of 'a'. Could this not read: how much does ONE book cost?

another translation could be how much does a pound cost.
