Accident with spanish to english translation?
I was supposed to translate "yo soy su marido", but then I realized it meant "I am his husband". Was there an error with this part of the lesson or something?
I think thou art confused because thou art not thinking of the polite form of address in Spanish. In English the polite form of address was once the second person plural. Then the normal form of address (thou) was lost completely. Maybe things become clearer if we translate to King James Bible English:
Yo soy tu marido = I am thy husband
Yo soy su marido = I am your (plural in the sense of polite address) husband, I am his husband, I am her husband
I hope that thou understandest it better now, that everybody else reading this understandeth it, and that you (thou and the others) take it all in good myrth.
