I really like Duo's new motivational support on mobile
On mobile there's a new feature where Duo will occasionally pop up in the middle of the lesson and give you feedback/motivation, saying stuff like "Three in a row, great work!" or "Looks like you had a little trouble there, keep at it!"
While it's just a silly little cosmetic change, I find it pretty funny and love seeing Duo (in his sweet Chinese dragon costume) more often around the app.
tl;dr I just wanted to post here (and maybe someone from the DuoLingo team will see it) saying how much I really like the new motivational Duo feature.
Me too. But I'm not into the whole gamify thing, when I do play computer games I turn the sound off so I don't hear the fake cheery voice saying good job. It interrupts my groove in the language I'm learning. Maybe if the speech bubble were in the target language?
I don't think putting it in target language would help. It's to short to improve your grasp of the language. It also appears so often it's pointless really six in a row? I'm used to missing at most two in the whole exercise, half of the time it's none. Duo has the data they could congratulate on a new streak or completing an exercise perfectly for the first time
That's a good point, those do seem like more important (and more rewarding) milestones to hit.
Hmm, I've never heard any voice or anything, I just get Duo popping up and a little speech bubble. I can see how that would be incredibly annoying.
I'm deliberately not upgrading the iphone app to v5.0.10 in the hopes of avoiding this change.
Good news! In case you didn't know, they've recently added a toggle in the settings to disable the motivational messages if you want. I'm not sure about iPhone, since I use Android, but I assume they've added it there too.
