colour of number-of-questions bar

Can anyone please tell me why sometimes the bar with the number of questions answered in an exercise over the top of each question is sometimes red and sometimes green? I don't know if the bar is called anything but it seems to indicate progress in that lesson or strengthening exercise.

I have always just assumed that gray was you have not unlocked the level gold was you finished and any other colors meant it needs work But, I could be wrong I will look for replies to your question

my bars are either red or green. On completing I am always gold. This is in learning French, but that's obvious from the fact I only have a French flag by my name! When I say 'On completing I am always gold', that's not colour of the bar that we are discussing, but the colour of the skill icon on the home page.

That's what I though too.

Doesn't it just match the colour of the skill? So if the skill is red then the bar is red also. Etc.

Not for me. my bars have only two colours, red or blue.

You are right. Looking now - I only get green - so I'm not sure where I got that idea from.

I initially was only getting green and then sometimes red too. I'm a little ahead of you on French so maybe you will also start getting red bars soon. So if you get another idea, or know where to try to find the answer, please let me know. I have done a bit of a search in DL ..spent a couple of hours trying to find the answer .. prior to posting. If I don't get an answer here I may try a new discussion and hope a moderator looks in with an answer. I cannot think DL is just being creative with colours. I'm sure they are trying to tell me something, but what?

Both of the following only show a simple green Progress Bar:

Might it be an A/B test? Although, I had a look and didn't see anything listed. But not all of them have meaningful names.

Did you get the same XP for the different colours? In theory, if you over strengthen a skill, it will give you less XP. [Although, I have never seen this happen myself] Could it be something like this? Or does the same skill always show the same colour?

I am assuming the colour is the same for the entire strengthening/learning exercise, and is not indicating a state change of some sort: connection down; too many wrong answers; etc etc

Hi everyone who has replied and jimnicholson. Thank you all. the links jimnicholson has given are very helpful. I have also started to note what topics have which colour icons for each skill is and then which colour strength bars are. I have been busy so far, but I think the colour of the icon and the colour of the strength bar may be the same. I will report back when I have enough data. And a lingot for you in thanks!

I always assumed that it was the type of lesson. Those that you get with lingots are purple, red seems to deal with adjectives, and blue and green with nouns. That's probably not right though.

Thanks. Never had purple, but have had lingots (now 218, and have spent some)! can't remember green now but I see I wrote green earlier, so maybe I get green and blue but took no notice till I started getting red. I'm trying to take special note from now. I'm going to do a post on requesting to have the features of the DL site explained. Just need to word it and work out where it is appropriate to post it. If you know the appropriate place to post such a request please suggest it to me. Thanks again.

Edit: just got reply (above) from jimnicholson. He has sent a link with most of what I want to know about the features of the site.

Thank you everyone who has contributed. The answer to the original question, after pursuing suggestions and reading comments is that the bar in question is the colour of the icon of the lesson. I have done enough exercises where I made note of the colour to confirm this.
