"Is this your first time studying Vietnamese?"

Translation:Lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt?

February 20, 2017

are those proper question-sentences?

it is not a question it should be Đây có phải là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không? or: Có phải đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không?

I agree its not a question, it just states: "Your first time studying Vietnamese" It seems like the more advance the lessons the more errors there are. This is why I joined a language exchange site. I'm talking with three people one from Ho Chi Minh city, One from Da Nang, and one from Hanoi. It lets me see accents from three different view points

John, do you have a link for the site

The app Hellotalk

Tại sao không nói không?

I am so confused... "Đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng việt? " Vn to en: Is this the first time you learn Vietnamese? En to VN: Is this your first time stuying Vietnamese?

The 'có' confused me in this one... On the plus side, it looks as though your example is now accepted... I think.

I think it should be something more like: Phải đây là lần đâu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không?

The answer is incorrect, I have never heard a question be asked like that in Vietnamese.

Lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt. Is this even a complete sentence? And what makes it a question? Why is "Đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không?" incorrect?

The answer should be like "Đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng việt phải không".

Back with this sentence several months later (a review of this material). Wrong again for the same reason as above. Clearly a number of other people have similar problems with this sentence. No response from DL. Silence. Very frustrating.

I'm not looking for any answers, just commenting that this is the most difficult/confusing question i've come across in the months ive been doing DL. I've gotten it wrong 4 times now and still can't connect the dots to understand the translation. Sure, i could just memorize the correct response, but then i wouldn't be learning anything from it. I'll continue to keep working at it but this is the most disheartened I've been in all my time on DL

Agree fully here. DL just springs this very advanced sentence with little supporting material leading to it. We shouldn't have to rely on native speakers visiting this in app forum to teach us the language, that's what we are paying DL for. This sentence makes me want to uninstall this app.

Có phải đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không? Ngữ nghĩa như nhau mà dịch vớ va vớ vẩn.

Đây là lần đầu bạn học tiếng Việt? Tiên với Phật gì ở đây? Đúng là lũ máy móc, không phải con người.

Câu này phải dịch là: Đây có phải là lần đầu tiên CỦA bạn học tiếng Việt không?...

Just adding more weight (in a #metoo fashion) to the forum. I am definitely confused by the given answer. How do we make a question in VN?

I dont get why "của bạn " is rejected" your" infers of you

This is incorrect. The answer tiles dont allow for it to be phrased aa a question.

I'm guessing this is more like saying, "First time you've studied Vietnamese?"
Or maybe: "First time studying Vietnamese?"

Is this the first time you study Vietnamese? Would be a more proper translation, wouldn't it? Not "your first time", as it isn't possessive.

I’m not seeing the “this” in the translation

Why không is not accepted at the end of the sentence

Worst translation and very confusing. Duolingo should have fixed by now.

đây là lần đầu tiên bạn học tiếng Việt không

A positive sentence requires đúng không at the end I guess
