Either pattern is correct. ro'n, o'n are common spoken forms that are also used in informal writing.

If I understood well the rule, I can use either O'n, ro'n i'n...  or Oeddwn, roeddwn i'n... , but NOT O'n, roeddwn i'n...  nor Oeddwn, ro'n i'n...
Is this correct?

Well you could mix them up, but it would sound a bit odd to mix styles like that. The shorter forms are common when speaking.
