How would you say "cooking oil" in Polish? For example yes there is "Masło", but how would you say the Russian equivalent to "растительное масло"?

Why is it "the butter" and not "a butter" or just "butter"?

"butter" works, but you cannot say "a butter", as far as I know.

Agree, "butter" sort of works, but "the butter" sounds more natural/fluent.

"A butter" wouldn't work for this context. You could possibly use such a phrase to mean 'a type of butter' eg. "Dairygold is a butter." But even so I think "Dairygold is a type of butter" sounds better.
