Seriously, this is January 2020 (summer for them, and a very hot and dry one). They are having terrible wildfires with millions upon millions of animals being killed. People have died and close to 2,000 homes have been lost. Let's pray for them.

Not quite true. You can't change the position of the adjective, but in Hebrew you can change the position of the verb. So you can say: שלג יורד or יורד שלג grammatically. Much more common, indeed, in this case to say the verb first.

Actually, when I think about this specific meaning (it can be snowing in Australia) the sentence מפתיע ששלג יורד באוסטרליה is even better. יורד שלג, is more for what's happening now.
