I wrote: Why are you surprised that snow falls in Australia? Seems correct to me.

I'm not surprised, just worried about the kangaroos and koalas and the boomerangs. They must be cold. :(

Seriously, this is January 2020 (summer for them, and a very hot and dry one). They are having terrible wildfires with millions upon millions of animals being killed. People have died and close to 2,000 homes have been lost. Let's pray for them.

What's wrong with "that snow is falling in Australia"?

I think it would be as this שהשלג יורד באוסטרליה.

Does it have to be שיורד שלג or could you also say ששלג יורד

for rain it is always "fell rain" and not "rain fell" Just like in Hebrew you say "the ball big blue" instead of "the big blue ball"

Not quite true. You can't change the position of the adjective, but in Hebrew you can change the position of the verb. So you can say: שלג יורד or יורד שלג grammatically. Much more common, indeed, in this case to say the verb first.

Actually, when I think about this specific meaning (it can be snowing in Australia) the sentence מפתיע ששלג יורד באוסטרליה is even better. יורד שלג, is more for what's happening now.

how do you know it is that it snows in australia vs that it is snowing in australia?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/PaulPrimus1959

It snows means that it can snow in general, whereas it is snowing means it is snowing now

No one addressed the first comment by jdklear with whom I agree.
