Where has my Progress Quiz gone???????
It's just dissapeared. Only the timed practice quiz remains. I'm so dissapointed :(
Just going on the record here to say I, too, am one of the affected users of this A/B test and I am NOT happy about it. If any devs are reading this thread, I just wanted to make that crystal clear.
The prevailing opinion on the Duolingo sub for some time now seems to be that the site has been dumbing itself down to appeal to the high school crowd Duo’s trying to attract and retain with the Schools feature.
I have to agree that this is to the detriment of long-time users of the site. Removing features for new users who might not have used or even noticed them is one thing. For those of us who’ve taken this program seriously enough to dedicate literally years to learning languages on this site—it’s quite another. I would strongly encourage Duo not to cater to the lowest common denominator, the high school students and younger who are being forced by their teachers to use Duo, and instead have some thought for the serious language learners who voluntarily help each other in discussion threads and even on off-site resources like the Duolingo Reddit community just out of sheer love for language-learning. Are we really the userbase you want to ostracize?
Giving you all my lingots because progress quizzes were literally my only reason for spending them.
I too came on to do a practice quiz just to find that it's still missing from my lingot store. At this stage in my learning, the practice quiz assessment was one of my top reasons for continuing to visit the site. What makes Duolingo think it's a good idea to arbitrarily remove a large feature like this? I have nowhere else to check my learning progress for free. That's the whole point of being able to use Duolingo: to get resources for free.
I have felt Duolingo was woefully going down hill in the last year or so. First they started adding new, exciting features like chatbots... but only if you have an iOS device. In other words, only if you are one of the world's richest people. That was a move completely and utterly against Duolingo's mission statement of bringing free language learning to people of all backgrounds worldwide. The majority of the world uses Android because there are much cheaper Android phones.
If Duolingo were really committed to helping out poor and middle class learners, they wouldn't have given new features only to the rich. Then to add insult to injury, they top it off by taking away valuable features from users like myself who have no other access to them. So not only do I not have new features, they've removed older useful features as well.
Between all this and the new premium version, I feel we are likely headed towards a situation where all the best features are behind a paywall. Just like every other language learning company. What a disappointment.
I honestly don't know how much longer I'm going to continue to give Duolingo my clicks (and therefore ad dollars). I was already pissed off enough because of the iPhone supremacist crap, but now I'm also losing normal web features. Great work serving the community.
And apple products aren't even worth the money that apple asks for, their products are just straight out trash! Why would Duolingo add a feature that is only available on overpriced, bundles of crap that Apple calls, "smartphones".
I completely agree with you on every front. I also spent my lingots on tests, and am extremely disappointed that they've been taken away. WHYYYYY?????
I'd like to reiterate the statement made by others:
I do not appreciate having my access to the Progress Quiz removed without notification or a provided end date. It is a valuable tool that I consider important for my own assessment of my progress. I understand the need for assessments of the efficacy of Duolingo's teaching methods (and am all for it), but random lottery evaluation without notification is ridiculous.
This is outrageous. I can't believe they would remove this. If you have a good feature... Keep it, even improve upon it, but don't remove it! Gah.
Where has the progress quiz gone? I thought this was the most useful learning tool on duolingo. What is the point of earning lingots when I have got nothing to spend them on.
I have been using duolingo every day for two years and I am really upset that the progress quiz is gone. I completed the lesson twice and was always at 60% ... I have been continuing to practice and wanted to see if my test score would be better and it's gone, and no more quizzes. Will have to stop using.
Yup, already spend lingots to equip a quiz which I can't take now. Not happy about it. But hey, what else am I going to use them for now? Ugh.
Another way to test your progress is to do the placement test for new users.
What I do is open a private browser window (so Duolingo doesn't have my login details. Alternatively I could log out, but then I would have to log back in again later). I select the language I am interested in (German) and then select and complete the placement test.
At the completion of the placement test it tells me how many skills I have tested out of and what it estimates my German fluency to be. I use these numbers to measure my progress. I also review the quiz and note how many answers I got wrong.
As my German has improved and I am getting fewer questions wrong, I notice that the quiz questions are getting harder.
Mine gone too. I get a 404 error page though. I don't have "web_remove_quiz_experiment: true" so think its some other reason
Me too. I miss it so much. Getting a certain score on my progress quiz was one of the goals for June
I really miss the progress quiz and the verb conjugation tables! I now have 740 lingots and nothing to spend them on except streak freeze. A major motivation for working with Duolingo every day has now vanished. What a pity!
I have finished my tree and would like a "PROGRESS QUIZ" or even "Timed Quiz" as I continue to eek in practice every day....neither of these appear anywhere on my iOS or other .... Perhaps because I've finished..? I've sent questions per email to no avail..... Insight? Thanx...
I have 2372 lingots, all of which were to be spent on taking tests. I really hope they bring the test back.
So many people said the same thing about wanting the quiz back but nothing has happened. Instead we have been given these pointless achievement badge things. I now have over 1000 lingots and I have been giving them away to the people in this discussion thread just to try to get rid of them! Also it would be nice to have some stories in languages other than Spanish. Welsh?
This is not a good way to do it, and I agree that they need to add it back, but, what if you created a new account and took the placement test? How close is that to the progress quiz?
That's why I basically stopped using Duolingo. These websites always do the same thing, leverage people's enthusiasm and energy to do good things and spread the word about their site and then they steal the work and make money off of it.
You can only do the progress quiz once and then you have to buy it again. I am assuming this is what you mean.
The Progress Quiz and the Timed practice are not the same thing.
When you buy the Progress Quiz you are given the quiz immediately and given a score of 0-5. It covers the entire course, not just the lessons that you have finished.
The Timed Practice will appear when you Strengthen Skills. You will see two buttons: "Practice without a timer", or "Start timed practice."
