We used to be able to access the conjugations when hovering over the verb, but for some reason, that seem to have stopped, now! I noticed it a few days ago, and tried it with different languages; still no conjugation! It was SUCH an useful tool! Why is it gone??

It still works for me for English-Portuguese on the web.

Maybe it is an A/B test thing, as multiple users complain or maybe they point some test users to the new platform, where not all functionality is already implemented?

In the informant_reference section of the user data, there is now a setting called web_hide_verb_tables ... so probably a test.

Q. Tab: Words: How to see more information about a word, conjugate a verb and go back to the lesson where that word was used?

A.

  1. -If you click on the 'Words' tab in the blue bar at the top of your screen, it will list all the words you have learned so far.

  2. -The words all have a dotted line underneath them.

  3. -If you click on any one of those words, it will pop up on the right side of your screen.

  4. -Clicking on the loudspeaker icon it will let your hear the pronunciation of that word.

  5. -It will show the (English) translation of that word, at the link 'Translation'.

  6. -It will show the grammar type (e.g. adverb) of the word at the link 'Part of speech'.

  7. -It will list the lesson in which you first learned that word. See the 'Skills' link on the right side of the screen. Click on that lesson name, and it will actually take you back to the lesson itself.

  8. -Lower down (on the right side of your screen), it will say 'more details' and if you click on that, you will see the word used in a sentence.

  9. -If you have forgotten the conjugation of a certain verb and you want to know it again, click on that verb in your 'Words' list, then click on 'more details' and the conjugation table pops up.

  10. -The 'Words' tab is not out of the box available in all natural languages Duolingo offers for learning, but there is a workaround for that.

Q. How to see the hidden 'Words' tab?

A.

The 'Words' tab is hidden in some courses.

If you want to view it, here is a little trick:

Steps:

  • 1) Go to a course with a 'Words' tab (French for example, otherwise only one of the following will work: English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish).

  • 2) Open a new tab (right click on the tab, then 'New tab' in your (e.g. Chrome) web browser), then go to http://www.duolingo.com and switch to a language course without the 'Words' tab (e.g. Polish).

  • 3) Go back to the first tab in your browser (French) and click on the 'Words' tab (do not reload the page).

  • 4) You should see the word list of the Polish course or any other course you switched in the step 2.

  • 5) This trick is not persistent, when you want to use the "Words" tab you have to follow this steps every time.
