Spanish Vocabulary Test (estimate of number of words)
Try it out. :)
Here is my own result:
In the Spanish test above, I got 7960 which it qualifies as in top 40.13%, the level of 10 year old child.
In comparison, in the english test, I got 22350 which is in top 6.08%, the level of professional white-collar worker in US. English is actually my second language. I did the same test in Turkish (native) with the result 26660 which is in top 0.19%.
I had done these tests yesterday as well and my level on both tests were slightly better then. Yesterday, I had 8000 in Spanish, the level of 14 year old teenager. Oh well. That was probably a bit of random luck :)
Having said that all 3 tests (Spanish, English, Turkish) are pretty much the same vocabulary. I am not sure how scientific these tests are as each language have different corpus sizes and how useful to use the same set of works in all these languages.
English test was top 6,33, the level of a professional white collar worker and its my first foreign language and spanish was 5180 which is 48,80 the level of a ten year old.
But Im not sure if the test really gives good answers, my english is pretty good but I am far from a ten year old in spanish. What do you think?
There does seem to be some correlation between Duolingo level and the score on that test, but it's not terribly exact apart from that. Our Duolingo Spanish levels are similar as were our scores, and my son who is level 12 on Duolingo got about 4000 and level of an 8 year old child.
Started to do the test in my native which is finnish and there is seriously something wrong with the test. The first question was a synonym of love and the answers were south, a cow, a life , and a living thing :D Now what should I choose, maybe a cow lol !?
English vocabulary: 22350 (★★★ Top 6.08% Your vocabulary is at the level of professional white-collars in the US!)
Spanish vocabulary: 23980 (★★★ El mejor 0.12% ¡Eres Miguel de Cervantes! ¡Podrías crear nuevas palabras y expandir el diccionario español!)
i guessed a lot of words in english that meant nothing to me, i suppose i was lucky.
I got 5480, 48.5%, vocabulary like a child of 10 years. In fact the estimate is probably a bit high, I must have had some lucky guesses.
I got 4030, which I feel ok with as I know I have a long ways to go (I have completed my DuoLingo tree). I did the same thing in English a while back and got 22,500 (I am a native Eng speaker from the US).
3780 o.o 41.47% ¡Tu vocabulario parece el de un niño de 8 años! "Your vocabulary looks like that of an 8 year old child!"
I have made the test in my native language and got 0,1%, that reflects my level of Portuguese knowledge. However there is something weird with the test: they write synonym and anthonym but the words to be chosen were not synonyms or anthonyms but rather words with similar or dissimilar senses.
Yes synonyms and antonyms are often not true synonyms and antonyms but rather, as you said, close meanings and close opposite meanings.
No one has made a comment like this yet so I will. I just took this test and it said that I have like a 16,500 spanish word vocabulary. I took the same test in English and only had something like 11,500 words. I'm a native English speaker and I wouldn't even be able to pass a B2 level exam from DELE. This is PROBABLY NOT a good indicator of your vocabulary and from my perspective It seems very biased. I guess I could be the odd one out on this but come on! Saying I have a significantly higher vocabulary in spanish is about as absurd as trying to convince someone that they can become fluent in 3 weeks. DON'T take this even with a grain of salt. It's just a silly game.
