Romanian Music

Hi, I would like some recommendations on music from Romania or in Romanian. I enjoy metal and rock, personally. I just started my Romanian tree today and I look forward to learn this obscure Romance language. After all, I hear its close to Latin. It even has "Roman" in the name.

Metal and rock you say? I'll give you some tunes and you can start from there... you can look for more of the songs of the artists:

4) Alternosfera - Ploile Nu Vin (alternative rock) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=673-h1FF30s)

5) Vama Veche - 18 ani (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZXojqPZrqQ)

6) Cargo - Calare pe motoare / ielele / Ziua vrăjitoarelor - love the riff 10/10 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDEjspLLkQM / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkVh_nEVZzc / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHW3FgjDlBw)

7) Bucovina - Mestecanis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-bbtYaY_c)

8) Trooper - Poemele Valahiei (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRybYMbQdS4)

9) Phoenix - Fata verde / Paşa Hassan / Baba Novac (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtvZnteTTFM / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmrDC50Uj_Y / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmKx1bm6f8Q)

10) Vali Sterian

I tried starting with the soft stuff... usually new stuff... i've left the best for the end. PS. Try some Subcarpați... you might like it... start with "Balada românului"

good learning choice ;-) , some romanian will make easier for you to learn other romance languages and dialects (french, italian, spanian, portugese, ...), they have a lot in common.

My rock suggestion would be Holograf, in a more folk direction, but easier to understand, look on Spotify for Mircea Baniciu and Pasarea Colibri. The song texts are also quite nice. Spotify has all of them.

Octavians list is also quite good!

Phoenix (aka Pasarea Phoenix) is an excellent suggestion from PirvuOctavian. I grew up listening to them, my father having immigrated to the United States from Timisoara in the 80s. I would also highly recommend Robin and the Backstabbers for more of an indie / post-rock sound.

Believe it or not, I actually find O-Zone helpful in learning the language. Those silly lyrics are easy to understand. :)
