I don't have the option of a progress quiz which other people seem to have. I'm on a laptop. Any ideas why this might be?
If you've looked at the Lingot store (instructions for how to do that were posted below) and the test isn't there as an option, I'm not sure why that is, but you're not the only one having this problem - whatever is causing it. I joined Duolingo a little over a week ago, at the same time as a couple family members, and I have the same problem. When my family members go to the Lingot store, they see an option for the progress quiz (and have shown me what it looks like in their account, so I have its existence confirmed ;)), but it's simply not available in my store. (For what it's worth, I also primarily use a laptop, but I've tried on another device and that doesn't seem to be the cause of this.)
I've seen several other posts on the discussions addressing similar questions (including from people who previously had been able to access the quiz without trouble but suddenly found it missing from their store options), and although I haven't yet found a completely conclusive answer, it seems to be something to do with the "A/B testing" system, which (as I understand it - I'm new, so you probably shouldn't quote me on this) Duolingo uses to somehow measure and study the effects of various features which they implement and/or remove on different users' accounts. I don't fully understand the system, but I think the different groups and the features they do or don't have are randomly assigned to users - meaning that I (and apparently you as well) were seemingly unfortunate enough to be placed in the testing group without the progress quiz available.
Unless you want to try and create a second account and hope this time you'll have a progress quiz, I'm not sure whether there's any way to access the progress quiz if it's not in your store other than simply waiting and hoping it'll show up sooner or later... sorry. Hope this clears up soon!
Try going to the lingot store (click the number of lingots you have in the top bar) and click on Progress Quiz (it cost 25 lingots).
See this screenshot:
I don't have that option in my lingot store, so I think I must be one of the unfortunate guinea pigs being tested on.
Hi, I'm pretty sure it's one of the new A/B tests Duolingo is running. Different groups of people will have different features available on their accounts so that they can study how the removal or addition of various tools might have an effect of users' learning. To check if you're in the A/B test, hit F12. Then, click on console and type in duo.user.attributes.ab_options. Hit enter and scroll all the way down. If it says "true" after web_remove_quiz_experiment, it means you're part of the A/B test. In that case, you'll either have to wait it out and see what happens or create a different account for taking the progress quiz. Best of luck to you!
My F12 key turns my airplane mode on or off, is there a possibility for this to be done a different way? My progress quiz shows up and I have taken it 2 times, but now I paid for it and when I click it, it takes me directly to home.
Maybe try hitting Fn and F12 together? Let me know if that works; otherwise, I'm not really sure, sorry.
When I tried that it just gave me "Unable to get property 'attributes' of undefined or null reference", but thanks anyway. I imagine that must be it.
Hi. I don't have the progress test either. Nor the flashcards.
I followed you're instructions, but my web_remove_quiz_experiment is false.
These are my web settings
That's strange; you should have a progress quiz. Perhaps in a bug or something. As for the flashcards, I know they're not available for all languages; did you have them before?
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I had both progress quiz and flash cards until an update to the website this weekend (or was it Friday?)
I know some people lost activity due to the update; I haven't heard anything about people losing the progress quiz or flashcards because of the update. You might want to ask a staff member about it or submit a bug report. Good luck!
