American Sign Language

I think it would be a different kind of course but I think it would be really cool, like if you agree and comment if you want to help contribute and I need moderators help

At the moment, the ASL post that has the most up votes is This one here. So, if you would like to encourage Duolingo to create an American Sign Language course, please go up vote that one.

As for this post, which sign languages are you asking folks to volunteer to create?

The Duolingo staff and moderators have asked us to keep to only a single post for each language that's suggested, to keep the forums manageable. Have a look at this post about how to suggest a language course: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/15014194.

Sign language has already been suggested and added to that page. If you want to add your upvote to the calls to add a Sign language course to Duolingo, that's where to do so.

There have been many requests for this. One big thing to consider is which sign language would the course be in as it's not universal also as someone who is studying to be a sign language interpreter, I personally feel that learning in a live class or from Deaf person themselves in much better.

ASL would be nice. I am not sure how to contribute, but if I find out, I might be able to help somewhat. I've studied ASL off and on for 10 years. My main problem is finding someone to practice it with.

Unless someone is fluent in sign language, I think they should not teach it. The internet is rife with unqualified people making youtube videos and tutorials like that. In the US, ASL heavily reflects deaf culture But, it also has significant scars. There have been many attempts to colonize ASL and even to extinct it by government administrations who wanted English only. They even tried to replace ASL with Signed Exact English. The last thing ASL needs is more interference from hearing people who start changing things by accident, due to ignorance.
