I share some example sentences with the infinitive form "kutofautisha":
Besides, your goal as a parent is not to control your children but to help them “have their powers of discernment trained to distinguish both right and wrong.”
Certain analysts had predicted that many computer programs, unable to distinguish between 1900 and 2000 because of a programming technique that left off the first two digits of year dates, would crash and cause all manner of disruptions.

TUKI Kiswahili-Kiingereza: linganisha - compare, equate, correlate; harmonize; (muziki) key. The English sentence uses the word "compare", not the phrase "explain the difference between", so I think linganisha should be accepted.
EDIT: While I don't think it would work in this sentence, -pambanua is another word for distinguish/recognize the difference/tell the difference. I have always loved the lyric from an old Swahili song that says Viwili havipendeki, jifunze kupambanua - Two things (in this case two women) cannot be loved at once, learn to tell the difference.
