Duolingo App Update
It seems the app has updated today (for me at least) Besides the fact that the health bar doesn't seem to exist anymore my bank of Gems (500+) also do not exist anymore and Lingots are now the currency (mine are were left unchanged). Duolingo, I paid for most all of those gems with real life Dollars, where did they go? Will I be reimbursed?
If an app took money from me than didn't provide what I purchased I would report them to whatever app store I got the app from.
Man, that stinks. that did not happen to me though. I think that you should make a report about it
I gave you some lingots. Hope that makes your day a little better... :(
Thank you, I appreciate that. Ill try to get on contact with Duolingo and see if we can resolve this
you now have 68 lingots. Have 5 more lingots from me.
I can understand your frustration about the gems.
However, you should be lucky that you are back to "normal DuoLingo" (Android app, web), where no health bar exists.
You can now learn as much as you want (including Web skills/lessons) without any refill or paying.
BTW: On the web you can also go into locked skills with a little trick and start the first lesson!
However, some lessons use 1-2 words or more fixed vocabulary or tenses from the top / previous skills, even those words might not have been learned (e.g locked skill, unfinished skills).
It probably is not the IOS app update, but that your user moved to the other A/B (test) group: https://www.duolingo.com/users/CENTAURSAURUS
There are multiple threads about the IOS app, that some people have the "normal DuoLingo" (progress bar in lessons), other users got the the special test with the health/gems.
Thomas, I appreciate that for sure. I didn't know about A/B groups as this message board is i bit tough to navigate. I guess my issue is that i have effectively paid near $30 for and app that advertises as free. Would I have paid this for Duolingo? Yes, absolutely its worth it for sure. But, it would have been nice to know this heading in. I did send a report to duolingo to see what the story is and ill wait for reply.
I have seen on the DuoLingo Android app, that there is now an item in the lingot store, where you can buy one month of ad-free (for real money).
Maybe the staff can offer something to you in trade for your $30? :-)
