Suggestion for new language: Sanskrit

Hello! First of all, I think we can all be very grateful for the chances Duolingo (and its voluntary helpers!) provides us with to learn new languages. It is probably the best "free" language learning platform on the world. I just want to have this being said before suggesting a new language. :-)

Why Sanskrit? My personal motivation is to read the ancient Vedas, to learn more about occult writings whose language appears to be strongly influenced by Hebrew and Sanskrit. Maybe we all could gain from that very specific kind of wisdom. Translations of these texts might lead to essential loss of meaning. I am not enough of an expert in this field, but just take the Gematria as an example. I could well imagine that in Sanskrit similar uses of language exist. Apart from that one could argue for the sake of "language diversity" itself; consider that Sanskrit is referred to as a "dead language" (although still spoken by .... how many? ..... people).

I hope that I am not the only one who is fascinated by this language and keen to learn it. Perhaps one day we can observe it hatching on Duolingo...

This language has already been suggested (see this post) and would be wonderful on Duolingo someday. The best thing to do now is upvote and comment on that post. Also, see this helpful guide: (GUIDE) I would like a new course: What should I do?

Oh, I overlooked the other thread. I typed in my search engine: "Duolingo Sanskrit" and got only a Quora thread without a response. Thanks for hinting me to it.

In the meantime Google is your friend. I searched and came up with http://learnsanskrit.org/resources

If you look under Resources there, there is a link to a 287 page book

If you can get the link below, you can download it directly. It is a scanned copy of an old book.

another website: http://learnsanskritonline.com/

I don't know anything about the above link. My browser says it's "not secure".

I'm not interested. If Duolingo ever comes out with Sanskrit, it will way down the road. Duolingo still needs to get the official languages like, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, and Finnish.

Sure, you are right with regards to the need of the "big" languages, but I don't see in what way a more exotic language could hamper the development of the others....
