    This raises an odd question: do you eat or drink soup in polish (or indeed would either verb sound natural to use?)

    Almost always eat, unless you really can put the spoon aside, put the plate to your mouth and literally drink the soup. Not common enough to accept, IMHO.

    You eat a sandwich or soup? I think it sounds workable. :) ..And does it already allow: “You are eating a sandwich or soup?”

    As far as I remember, we decided we can't accept this word order for "A or B?" questions.

    OK. It is very informal. Probably more everyday conversational than correct written word structure.
