Have anyone tried to get a practice partner online?

Hello. I am new here on Duolingo and I am really curious about some subjects. I began learning Turkish and I am taking it seriously (at least this time if I did not until now). As you may know, without speaking practice when learning a new language, the result will be almost 60% a failure. SO MY QUESTION IS.... Have anyone tried to get a practice partner online? How was it? Is it safe? Thanks in advance and wish you all the best guys! xoxo

I have great language partners. If you are a woman try to get a woman, make it clear, because some guys are looking for more than language partners. Try to find people at your level, if the other person is more advance than you they tend to take over the conversation. Also be clear "lets do x minutes, half in each language, and try to stick to that language" and some people recommend to try to start the conversation in the language you are learning.

Be fair and friendly, always allow time for chitchat. It is fun to meet people online if you find people with similar interests and age (but I have people older and younger that me). Not everyone is looking for conversation partners, some people only want to email. I prefer to exchange messages first and after I know them move to Skype. There are a lot of apps for language partners, hellotalk has been recommended here a lot, also conversationexchange.

Thanks for your thoughts! Ive joined a lot of language learning sites but never had the "courage" (to say so) to start a video conversations. You never know what people intentions are, right, although I try to keep being optimistic. :)

Try using language exchange sites like lang-8.com, you can talk with many people there in public or private, or invite them to direct chat using skype, whatsapp or whatever. Some may be cold, others may be weird and some may stop answering, but you may also make a few friends, depending on your personality. Just don't lie to people and don't reveal personal information unless you really get to know them (for a few months at least).

But don't use penpal sites, for some unknown reason there are only scammers, freaks and online sex seekers there, a nice girl like you will quickly be invited to show her... everything! lol

Yeah, thats why I asked. I know that you cant trust everyone and the majority become stalkers or anything after some time. Well, wish i could find someone with the same interests haha

I tried to get one but we might be in different time zones so it hasn't really worked + I am so busy that I do not have much time to practice during the week. I just do it on a discussion so I don't speak it out so I might have some trouble with that. But as far as I know it is safe. =)

I have an online Turkish friend, its been almost 1 year since we "met", he is really nice and with good intentions and we talk via messages. But idk, I dont want him to get busy by starting a video conversation with me or anything (or am I shy?). However practice would be nice :) Wish you all the best!

Try italki.com or lang-8.com. They're sites to write journal entries in your target language and you can find people to talk to on there, too.

I am already a member on lang-8.com but I did not find it interesting or helpful in any way. :) Thanks for your opinion though!

Oh, that sucks. When I was learning Japanese, I used them a ton and it was so useful to find practice partners. I even found a "boyfriend" on it to practice with lol
