Esperanto-USA National Congress 2017:
The Esperanto-USA National Congress is in Raleigh, NC from Friday, June 30 to Monday, July 3 this year! This year's theme is "What should we do now?: The future of Esperanto in the USA", focusing on the increasing popularity of Esperanto due to its introduction on Duolingo.
The Congress is appropriate for all speaking levels, so do not be afraid if you are a beginner. There will be a variety of activities, including games, talks from prominent Esperantists, and excursions.
Lodging and meals are available on site at the Congress.

Barring a sudden attack of sanity on the part of the NC government, I think I'll pass.
I had similar reservations. However, it is not like the organizers have infinite resources to organize a congress wherever they want, and not going to a Esperanto congress hurts peace and equality more than going to NC...
I certainly understand your position. But, remember Esperanto is a language of hope, and we can fight evil with goodness. Second, the media makes North Carolina out to be some huge redneck conglomerate, which yes, it is in some areas. Raleigh is quite modern and does not hold the same attitude as a whole that our legislature may. Actually, Raleigh is very LGBTQ friendly and quite accepting.
Please do not let this stupid law that will hopefully be overturned soon detract you from visiting our beautiful city and wonderful event. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out.
