Is the English "actualize" is correct here. I find no English definition for actualize" that means "update"; rather, in English "actualize" means "make real." Does the German word actually carry both meanings?

No, this is a classic false friend. "aktualisieren" means "update" only. Also, "aktuell" means "up-to-date", "current" or "topical", not "actual".
