I've finished my Swedish tree

Well, english is not my native tongue, so it helped me to improve my english too. The whole tree took me 61 days with 60xp per day in average, Therefore i want to say thanks to the contributors, Arnauti, Anrui and to the whole community. This is my third tree and I think in this course the contributors are the most dedicated with their explanations. I have to improve a lot in Swedish yet, but I think is a good start. As supply I recommend memrise.com and the app called musicxmatch for listening and reading songs in Swedish. I will go to Sweden soon, so I hope to improve much more. Finally I would like to ask for a recommendation about a good book in Swedish. Kind regards to everybody and do not give up! Hej då!

Grattis! En dag, jag kommer att åka till Sverige också. My Swedish still needs brushing up too, but I do agree that Duolingo is a good start.

I don't have recommendations for books (I haven't found any novels that sound all that interesting) but I have a two links for shorter stories (upper-beginner, intermediate level):

Children's books in Swedish

Swedish translation of "The Egg", a short story by Andy Weir

You can also look for movies and TV shows. This post shares the first episode of Pippi Longstocking, a popular children's TV show (so popular, I actually watched several episodes in English as a child).

For more... serious stuff, I've also heard a lot of people suggest a TV show called Bron, which is a Swedish-Danish detective-crime show, but I haven't seen it myself. I've only seen one movie in Swedish so far, which was a vampire movie called "Let the right one in" (I can't think of the Swedish title right now), which is a mix of thriller and slow-climbing suspense with a pre-teen male protagonist. I thought it was interesting but it's not a movie for everyone (it doesn't aim to appeal an American audience, so it might seem to drag on in some parts).

Anyways, good job on your träd!

Har en bra dag och hej då!

The movie is called 'Låt den rätte komma in' and is based on a book by the same name.

Hej DragonP!! Du är duktig på att skriva, men jag hittade några småfel. Det är bättre att du skriver:...åka till Stockholm eller Göteborg. ... vill åka till många plater...min första resa kommer att bli till en stad.

I was gonna post a wall of text regarding literature, but then I accidentally clicked a link and all was gone. Oh well, Try something by Astrid Lindgren; it's children's litterature, which is good for beginners, it's of great cultural importance in Sweden, which is good for people who want to learn more about Sweden. Some I liked include 'Bröderna Lejonhjärta' about two brothers who finds themselves in a fantasy land ruled by an evil dictator, and 'Ronja Rövardotter': two household (gangs of highwaymen), both alike in dignity (they have none), in fair some random forest, where we lay our scene... About a girl from one of the gangs befriending a boy from the other gang. Drama ensues.

Also, there is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htZkR_hgtrs (Aniara by Harry Martinsson) If you could understand that, then it would be a hot tip, but chances are it's too advanced. Perhaps something to aim for.

Anyway, congratuations for your achievement! I find myself in a similar position as I am dedicating this year to learning German. Still have a way to go before I've earned my owl though.

Congratulations! I have just started swedish course yesterday, I find it pretty easy for the moment.

Do you found it hard? I am also a non-english native and it also helps me to improve my english. Have you planned to do danish or norwegian?

first of all thank you!, you right, at the beginning seems easy, I did 13 levels of german before and there are a lot of similar words, but meanwhile you are moving on across the tree it turns harder. I want to dedicate the whole year to Swedish so at the moment i do not want to do any other Scandinavian language.

Grattis! I recommend 8sidor.com. You can hear and read daily news reports written at a beginner's level. It's a great tool to actually hear a real person reading and hear the cadence, tone, and emphasis of spoken Swedish, while also following along with the script.
