Kaj vi?

Saluton!

I am new to Esperanto and have not conversed in it yet. I am wondering what the natural response in this conversation would be:

A: Saluton! Kiel vi fartas? B: Bone, ...

Does it make sense for B to respond with something like "kaj vi?" ? I know that this is a common response in Spanish, so I am wondering if it makes sense or is natural in Esperanto.

Dankon!

[Edit] Thanks for the replies everyone! It seems like there are more opinions on this than I thought there would be! From what I have gathered, "kaj vi?" can be a natural response in this dialogue.

Although, it does seem like others may prefer to reply with something else. Are there any other responses to this common greeting that come up more often or are more natural?

Thanks again!

Yes, "Kaj vi?" is understandable.

The only place I can think of where "Kaj vi?" might sound awkward is if the original question was a "Ĉu...?" question. Then "Ĉu vi?" would be more appropriate. Here's an example:

A: Saluton! Ĉu vi fartas bone?

B: Jes, dankon! Ĉu vi?

(If you really wanted to include "kaj", I suppose you could rephrase that last sentence as "Kaj ĉu vi?")

To be honest, though, I think "Ĉu vi?" and "Kaj vi?" would both be easily understood in this case. It's not like the listener will be left scratching their head trying to figure out what you meant by "Kaj vi?".

My sense is that the following dialog is totally natural, and more natural than your suggestion.

A: Saluton! Ĉu vi fartas bone?

B: Jes, tre bone, dankon! Kaj vi?

Yep, fantomius, i agree, at least that seems to accord with what little experience I have had with advanced speakers face to face.

From personal experience, I can tell you that the reply "Bone, kaj vi?" is commonly used online at the Freenode Esperanto IRC and the Esperamondo Minecraft server.
