What if I wanted to say that it was a policewoman? Is there any specific word for it?

heddwas (heddweision) seems to be gradually becoming more popular, but we also have the widely used:

  • plismones (plismonesau) - policewoman (policewomen)
  • plismon (plismyn) - policeman (policemen)

So:

  • Gwelais i blismon - I saw a policeman
  • Gwelais i blismonesau - I saw some policewomen

Ap geiriaduron gives 'Heddferch' which sounds sensible although I've never heard it.

I'd go easy on using heddferch. I wouldn't have thought most Welsh speakers would know what it means.
