I wonder if the funny alternatives are produced by the following algorithm: At first, the incorrect options presented in multiple choice as translations for a given sentence are essentially random. But then the sentences that elicit incorrect responses more often are used more often. I can think of several reasons why someone should tick "you pay money" as supposedly a translation of "te quiero". The most likely involves more than one person in front of the computer, and a certain amount of giggling. Since most multiple choice options are /obviously/ incorrect, the funny ones quickly become prominent.

Hmm, I am afraid it doesn't make sense in German. Without further words "neu hier" "neu in der Klasse" neu can mean "just produced, harvested, bought, received etc. (der neue Wein, die neue Ernte, das neue Ipad, die neue Puppe) "Ich bin neu" sounds clumsy. In Germany you would rather say "ich bin der Neue/die Neue" when start in another company or "ich bin neu hier".

If your granddad only says "ich bin neu" you would have optical doubts.

Sorry for my English, its not my mother tongue.

"He eats a black apple" is my favourite French phrase so far. It sounds unhealthy. And apparently I am many animals in various different languages: "I am a lion," "I am a tiger," "I am a bear," and so on, and so forth. (Yeah, I see the joke there, but it was unintentional. Those are all phrases I had.) I'm also very fond of the simple question, "Bees?" because it makes you wonder about the context... That one might have been in Spanish.

Are duolingo threads glitching, or is this actually a sticky?

I don't mean anything rude by this OP. It's just weird for me since you're not a mod or admin etc and have sticky label appended to your thread.

The last time I saw that a regular user's post was stickied, it was due to a glitch in the duolingo discussion board.

Not sure why you're being downvoted here. It's a valid question.

A moderator doesn't have to have created a post for it to be "Stickied", but this one is strange to me. Why resurrect a two-year old post out of the blue? Very strange indeed.

Course moderators (and presumably admins) have the ability to tag certain threads with a "Sticky" label. This forces those threads to stay pinned to the top of the Popular tab on the discussions page.

The "sticky" feature is mostly used when there is information that the moderators want everyone to see, because otherwise the thread might get buried under new threads.

      I am referring to this

      example

On many forums on the internet, stickies keep certain posts at the top of their front page regardless of how old it is or what its rating is.

If you look @ the discussion posts, the stickied posts are 99% of the time made by mods and admins and not by regular users like you and me.

I found another "stickied" thread made by a user: a subjunctive conjugation guide. That had good information that Duolingo wanted users to see. However, I am very confused as to why this thread got stickied. Why would Duolingo want its users to see this?

      In Romanian:

Noi ne iubeam până oboseam! -> We were making love until we were getting tired!

Doing the reverse Spanish tree, I got "tengo una mujer" -- I have a woman, followed by, "dónde está mi esposa" -- where is my wife?

Also, "Yes, I eat my food with bread," as an audio question. I don't know about you, but I typically use silverware. :D

"Tengo tu ropa" -- I have your clothes is actually okay, but it implies something different.

"¿Tienes puesta ropa interior?" -- do you have underwear on? I hope you do.

Of course, there is "I eat salt," but everyone already has that.

And finally, "Ella tiene siete hijos" -- she has seven sons/daughters. What a nightmare!

I sure have in my German lessons. They always bug me, except they are easy. But the problem with them is that they give more than one example that sometimes looks like it means the same thing as another.

Please dont say it makes me lol, you say it makes me laugh you dont use lol literally you just say lol when something is funny, and in no other context.

      11/12/2014, 2:46:15 PM

      https://www.duolingo.com/Drakessis

Actually, "LOL" means laugh out loud, and you can say, " It makes me laugh out loud." Then again, "LOL" isn't an actual word and has no real way to use properly in a sentence.
