Current situation of Activity streams. Please do not post any more new discussions on this.
Currently there are some issues with the activity streams. This has been going on for multiple hours. Earlier there were no streams available, at the moment streams seem to show activity from 5 months ago. This suggests that people are working on this, so please stay calm and wait for everything to be back to normal.
Also, by the looks of it this is not an A/B test. I know some of you seem to think that because several people have been claiming it is. It appears that some people are part of an A/B test that has removed the Activity stream function. However, there are already several topics on that, so if you want to discuss this please use one of those discussions.
Either way, A/B tests are part of Duolingo and many other websites and are vital to get any idea on the consequences of adding/removing features etc.. I know it can be inconvenient if you are part of it, though if it is inconvenient it most likely will show in the results of the test.
So again, please stay calm and wait for everything to be restored again and don't create any more discussions on this issue.
Any new discussions on this issue or so-called "A/B testing" will be removed. There are plenty recent discussions in which you can discuss this.
Just to add:
During this time, moderators may remove discussions that violate the guidelines and you won't be notified. Repeated guideline violations result in account bans. So, please be sure to read the Community Guidelines to help you avoid having your discussions removed. Another thing to remember is that if your discussion receives 5 down votes, it will disappear from view and has not necessarily been removed by a moderator. To help you avoid getting down votes (as much as possible), check out this Community and Discussions guide called "Faux Pas"
Thanks for your patience!
I can't thank both of you guys enough. If anything, you guys are the patient ones. It's pretty amazing to see how you can stay calm in times of chaos.
As well, it may be prudent to note that you as a community have other resources at your disposal. Keep checking the Duolingo Help Page for updates to the situation, and also be sure to check the Duolingo Status Page if you are concerned about the website being down. Keep checking this periodically as well, as an update may surface here later in the day at the bottom of the page. As El2theK has said, remaining calm and patient is the best thing that can be done right now.
My activity stream ist showing me stuff from last week at the moment. I feel like driving the DeLorean :D
As of March 22, around 6:24 PM Mountain time, it's been catching up. As far as the history goes for me, here it is:
- Activity stream gone, in the morning
- Shows stuff from five months ago
- Displays activity from three days ago
- Displays activity from yesterday
- (Mar 23) Displays activity from 10 hours ago
- Hooray! It seems to be working!
As of morning March 23rd, it seems to be working - showing stuff from two minutes ago. =)
Activity is back, though apparently anything from more than about a week ago is gone (last time that got fixed eventually, I assume it will this time too) and old stream conversations only show on the poster's stream, not on the stream they posted on. IIRC that happened last time too but I don't know if it was ever fixed, since I only cared about recent conversations, which work properly.
I also have nothing from before a week ago, which is irritating. I did wonder if they'd permanently reset activity or whether it will reappear. If activity goes, people will have no way of communicating except on the open forums, which they are always asking us not to clutter up!
It's fixed now, at least for me – I can finally get to older activity entries than those made ~3 weeks ago. :D
Thank you for the update, El2TheK. I greatly appreciate this bit of info.
