How to be consistent, dedicated and determined to learn Spanish even after an exhausting day at work?
Everyday I plan to do at least 15 mins of Duolingo I keep procrastinating because I get home from work exhausted.. I need some suggestions. Where do you guys find the time to learn languages or how do you make learning a language a priority?
maybe it helps if you set your goal lower for a while. My daily goal is 1 xp (yes ONE!), this way it never feels like a big deal to go to Duolingo and do a little bit. And if I do a little more than 1xp, then it's because once i get going I enjoy doing it, not because i HAVE to. :-)
Ok I just set it to 1xp it was at 10xp. Thanks alot, I will keep you posted.
I am so disappointed I did a lesson yesterday but because I used the app I lost my 12 days streak I though it was set to 1xp as well.
oh I'm sorry. I have never tried the app, so I didn't know that could happen. Have you bought a streak freeze, just in case? Here, have some lingots! Time to start again :-)
Life does get busy. But there are ways you can get that 15 minutes if you really want it. First of all, it doesn't matter if it's 15 minutes all at once does it? I am maintaining my streak, for example, by doing a lesson when I go to bed at night and another when I wake up before I get out of bed. If I'm feeling a bit tired, I do a quick strengthening exercise instead of a new lesson. I sleep by my phone anyways, so this isn't a problem. It may sound bad, but if you want to learn, what about taking the phone with you in the bathroom? Right there is 10-15 minutes wasted anyways. You can get 2-3 lessons done easily this way. If you're at work, do a lesson on each break. If you take transit to work, do more lessons. You have the time, although maybe not all at once. Good luck!
I am impressed by your comments. I will consider the bathroom, before bed and when I wake. As for lunch break and transit I don't always have access to the internet at work or when travelling to and from work but good advise
I find that there is a lot of time that is just wasted: waiting in line at a store, waiting on hold on the telephone, using the bathroom, commute times. If you can find a way to review or study during these times, you might be able to do a lot.
I like listening to my target language while doing chores like dishes or while exercising.
Do you have IRL friends on here? I have one friend who is also really active and the competition between us keeps me coming almost every day.
I run through some review lessons before I get out of bed in the morning. That way, no matter how the day goes, I know I accomplished at least one thing. :)
Maybe just wake up 10 minutes earlier than you normally do, before you go into your normal routine with all the "distractions" of life.
Just think of all the places you could go. Maybe shorten your time limit to 10 or 5. Just relax. Take a deep breath.
I sneak some learning while I drive. I put some cool music in my target language and sing away. You know, music triggers memory like nothing else. Look for cool music in Spanish!
The important thing is that every day you do something, even if it's just a little.
Everywhere. There are tons of discussions here in Duo of people talking about their favorite artists/bands. Go see what people are saying. For example, I like all salsa music, but I can also recommend Sakira or Maná. Go to youtube and see what you find!
I am so disappointed I did a lesson yesterday but because I used the app I lost my 12 days streak I thought it was set to 1xp as well. Apparently on the website it is set to 1xp but on the app it is set to 10 xp. I was so busy yesterday. #feeling sad
