Also "för att" can be used. And sometimes the question-word "varför" (why) is used in a statement, as "because".

"På grund av" can be followed by an object, the others need a secondary clause. "Därför" is followed by the result, the others (including "därför att") is followed by the reason.

When used in relation to a previously known reason that is not mentioned in the sentence, "därför" or "på grund av + pronoun" can be used. Jaha, så det var därför. (Aha, so it what because of that.) Jaha, så det var på grund av honom. (Aha, so it was because of him.)

The answer to "Varför fick du vänta?" (Why did you have to wait) would most likely be "Därför/För att Tom var sen" or "På grund av stormen".

The short stubborn answer to "Varför?" is usually "Därför!". And the expression "Just because." is usually said "Bara därför att." or "Bara för att.".

BTW, "på grund av" is sometimes abbreviated to "p.g.a." (or just "pga" when lazy).

Some of the words/examples given by me and the others might be closer to "since", "hence" or "due to" in English, but that is more or less the same as "because (of)".

Also, I'm a native Swedish speaker, and these examples is from what I think "feels right", and not because I actually know what is correct grammar :-)

Planet blev försenat på grund av stormen - The plane got delayed because of the storm.

Jag fick vänta eftersom Tom var sen. - I had to wait because Tom was late.

Other ways of expressing 'because' exist, but I'm in a hurry :)

därför - because of that, that's why

jag åt nyss, därför är jag inte hungrig - I ate just now, because of that I'm not hungry.

can mean because in some constructions but it is a bit unusual/archaic. Actually it may be closer to since

Då jag inte vet vart jag ska måste du hjälpa mig - Since I don't know where to go, you have to help me
