Lexical Similarities of European Languages (For Linguistic Super Nerds!)

I'm wanting to learn another language in addition to French, so I thought I'd try to find what language is closest to French in terms of similar vocabulary because I feel that I could pick it up with relative ease. So I came across this diagram:

Fascinating, no?

I've never thought that Albanian is a language so isolated from the other languages and has a relationship with Greek. Very intriguing!

Random comment but I'm Albanian and I can guarantee you that a lot of what keeps pushing me to keep learning languages after starting them, is comparing them to my own... Suddenly, the grammar that i was struggling with doesn't seem so difficult! Our language is weird.

A very interesting article. Thank you for posting this.

So according to this French and Italian have a similar lexical distance to Latin (assuming that the ball indicated as 'Rm' stands for Latin).

I believe that's Romansh, not Latin.

Oh thanks for that. I believe I was misled by some of the comments.
