Use certificates - they are great motivators
I tested my Italian skills in late February, and scored 1.65/5.00. I was a bit down, as I really thought I had learned more than that, but now - a little more than one month later - I just scored 2.94/5.00, so apparently I am improving. I noticed that I was better at the clitic pronouns this time - last time I was totally blank. :)
I just took it. Scored 2.03. I'm wondering if that has any relationship to the European standards. Probably not, but I'm glad I tried! You're right--it's good motivation.
I do the certificates once a month. I was dreading doing it this month, since I feel "stuck" lately (passato prossimo and reflexive verbs are getting me down).

I'm far from perfect, but it's nice to see the improvement :)
Wow, you are level 23. I am "only" 13. Congratulations. :)
I am on the "Regular" track. Regular is 16 XP per day, and I am still on track. I think I practice about 5-10 minutes each day, some days a bit more.
With a level 23 you must have practiced a great deal, so I would take it. :)
As far as I know, it covers the full tree - so no matter where in the tree you are, you will still be asked about stuff that you may not have covered yet. That makes the progres accurate. But of course, it does not cover language that is not covered by Duolingo.
Are you keeping the tree golden, or are you just proceeding through the tree? I find that most of my time is spent keeping the tree golden, so I only have time for one lesson now and again.
Had I know that, I would not have paid the Lingots to take it. I am only starting Italian (on level 8 or 9) and I thought the test only covered where you were in the tree. I was bummed that the first sentence threw me for a loop. :(
