I suppose this sentence is necessary to translate from what you might say in Ukrainian but this is awkward English - We'd probably say something like - Why hasn't this salad got carrots? or why do we have salad without carrots?

Would either "Чому цей салат немає моркви?" or "Чому цей салат без моркви?" be more appropriate?

«Чому цей салат немає моркви?» doesn’t sound well, it sounds like ‘Why doesn’t this salad possess carrots?’. I.e. it sounds bad when you’re talking not about people having something, but about objects including some components.
